This guide covers the essentials we walk through on every commissioning visit. It is not a substitute for licensed electrical work or our on-site assessment, but it will help you prepare a room before hardware arrives.
Before the Units Arrive
1. Measure Your Heat Rejection Budget
Air-cooled miners rated at 0.05 TH/s and above typically reject 200–400 watts of heat per unit into the room air. Multiply by your unit count. If your space has no active exhaust, that heat accumulates and intake temperatures rise within hours.
Rule of thumb: you need at least 0.5 square meters of exhaust opening per kilowatt of total heat load, or mechanical extraction moving twice the room volume per hour.
2. Verify Electrical Capacity
Each unit should have a dedicated circuit where possible. A 0.08 TH/s air-cooled machine commonly draws 900–1,200 watts at the wall. Check breaker rating, wire gauge, and whether other loads share the circuit. Korean residential panels in older buildings often cannot support more than two miners without an upgrade.
3. Plan Clearance and Airflow Direction
Leave 30 cm minimum behind each unit for hot exhaust. Intake side should face the coolest wall or filtered opening. Never stack units with the lower machine breathing the upper machine's exhaust.
Installation Day
4. Mount Securely
Vibration loosens power connectors over time. Use shelving rated for the unit weight plus a twenty percent margin. Anchor tall racks to the wall if earthquakes are a concern in your region.
5. Label and Photograph
Photograph serial numbers, cable routing, and breaker assignments before powering on. You will need this for warranty claims and tax records.
6. Firmware Baseline
Record stock firmware version before any pool configuration. Set fan mode to auto unless you have a documented reason to override. Note pool URL and worker name in your logbook.
First 48 Hours
- Check intake temperature every four hours; sustained intake above 35°C warrants throttling investigation.
- Compare pool-reported hash to manufacturer spec; variance beyond five percent may indicate power sag or thermal limits.
- Listen for bearing whine or rhythmic clicking — early fan failure is cheaper to fix before it cooks hash boards.
